NEW START UP TAKES ON THE KILLER BEES
Mr. Frank Swingle, who is the spokesman for the recently launched AllTek Bee Removal Service LLC of St. Petersburg Florida, stated in a recent interview, “The time has come to take on this menace.” The menace, which is sweeping across Florida like a hurricane, is the increasing presence of what are commonly known as "killer bees."
Killer bees are a cross strain of African and European honey bees that were under development in Brazil in the 1950’s with the hope of creating a more efficient bee for that region. Some swarms were accidentally released from the experiment into the wild and in time the bees carved their way to America by way of Mexico. When asked about the subject Mr. Swingle stated, “The most alarming difference between Africanized honey bees and their European counterpart is in aggression. Africanized honey bees are far more diligent in their defense of the hive and as a result they will attack in huge numbers when their nest is disturbed often chasing the victim many times farther than would a standard European honey bee. Physically, they so closely resemble their European cousins that only an expert can tell the difference, but if you disturb their hive you are likely to find out the hard way."
First discovered in Florida in 2002 killer bees can now be found throughout the region. They have invaded everything from mailboxes to water meters, often finding crevices in the walls of homes and businesses where they then make their nests. They have been blamed for dozens of animal deaths throughout Florida, and most recently the bees have allegedly taken their first human casualty in Okeechobee county.
An expert on bee behavior with over 35 years of beekeeping experience as well as a certified pest control operator, Mr. Swingle goes on to say, “My colleagues and I have seen a huge increase in the number of hyper aggressive honey bee nests and swarms here in Florida over the past few years. It's like an invasion.” In response he and his team put together a state of the art proprietary system to eliminate the bees, and more importantly remove the nest.
“Removing not only the bees, but the entire nest is the key,” Mr. Swingle stated. “In doing this we eliminate the potential for new bees to return to that spot which is something honey bees often do. Most major pesticide companies are not equipped to take this very important step, but that’s what AllTek Bee Removal service technicians are trained to do.”
Another distinction that separates Alltek Bee Removal LLC from other competing companies is conservation. “This is one area where other pesticide companies cannot compare to our specialization.” Mr. Swingle explained, “If we find a hive of honey bees that are not showing the signs of aggression that is typical of Africanized bees we save them to later be recycled into commercial beekeeping outfits. Some customers prefer this method of removal because they are aware of the fast depleting supply of ordinary honey bees in this country. The systems in place at Alltek allow us to give the bees back to the beekeeping community.”
What else can AllTek Bee Removal Service technicians do? They can handle any and every kind of stinging insect including yellow jackets, hornets, and wasps. "Africanized honey bees are extremely dangerous, but they're not the only offenders." Mr. Swingle explained, "Any bee can be dangerous to a person, and Alltek is dedicated to keeping people safe from any bee no matter what the aggression level."
When asked what one should do if they were to come into contact with a nest of bees Mr. Swingle replied: “You should remove yourself from the area as quickly as possible, being careful not to wave your arms or swat at them as this will alarm and aggravate the bees. Then you call in the pros.”
